Set in a pub in the rural Irish community of Knock na Geena, the play evokes sentiments of pathos, redemption and hope. This instantly relatable, thought-provoking piece, interlaces comedic dialogue with shattered dreams and health scares. The possibility of redemption is coupled with the crippling fear of failure and the longing for what might have been. The guilt and shame of missed opportunities confronts the main character, Ambrose, through the foil of his youthful self whom only he can see.

The play’s exploration of the trials and tribulations of a local hurling team contesting to win their first county championship is seen from the perspective of the players, the management team and locals who frequent the pub. Begrudgery and criticism of unsuccessful past attempts are front and centre – yet, the chance for redemption and glory, which has previously eluded the team, now appears as a slim possibility.

The playwright, Tipperary native Patrick Fogarty, has already gained national recognition for winning the coveted P.J. O’Connor Radio Drama Award. Tullamore Amateur Dramatic Society (TADS) is delighted to stage his most recent play and to be the first drama group to bring its colourful characters to life.
